            THE JAZZ SHOW

            On Air: Sudays 6-8pm

            Presenters:Madge Simcox, Emyr Webster

Our next jazz night in the Rhondda is going to be a very special occasion. Andreas Varady, a virtuoso guitar prodigy, originally from Slovakia, will be performing for Rhondda Jazz in the Treorchy Rugby Club on Tuesday 10th August at 8pm. He will be accompanied by his Father and the John Gibbon Trio. Born in Slovakia, into a Hungarian Gypsy family, Andreas Varady has been playing the guitar since the age of four. Although only twelve years old, he is already an accomplished and imaginative musician, inspired by his favourite guitarists George Benson, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass. Playing in a Django Reinhart style, Andreas plays completely by ear and is taught by his guitarist father, Bandi. He has lived in Ireland since 2008 and gained experiences from attending Limerick's weekly jazz workshop. Andreas first reached a national audience on RTE's 'The Guitar' competition in 2009, and has since been featured on BBC and RTE television and radio. This year he will appear at many international festivals, including Belfast's Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Sligo Jazz Festival, Derry Jazz Festival, Cork Jazz Festival and Brecon Jazz Festival. He also recently received a scholarship from the combined Arts Councils of Ireland to study at the 2010 Skidmore Jazz Institute summer school in New York, and is one of the youngest musicians to have been accepted there.Don't miss this fantastic event in the Rhondda on August 10th.
